For days when “great” feels out of reach, but okay feels possible.
You might come to this song when everything feels heavier than it should. When your mind is looping, your chest is tight, and the questions feel old.
This song doesn’t try to fix that.
It doesn’t rush you toward optimism or meaning.
It simply sits with you in the truth that pain happens –
and that it’s… okay.
You don’t have to feel good to be okay.
You can keep going… gently.
Prompts (choose one)
- What feels heavy right now?
- What am I still showing up for, even though I’m tired?
- What would “okay” look like today – not great, just okay?
One tiny practice
- Let your shoulders drop.
- Take one slow breath out, longer than the breath in.
- Say quietly (or out loud): “Okay is enough for today.”
You can stop here.
Lyrics and a love letter
You can read these slowly now or come back another time.
The lyrics may help you explore what the song means for you. The love letter is something I wrote afterwards, as a kind of hindsight encouragement. I offer it gently, in case it resonates with your own explorations.
Lyrics
Easy come, easy go, means living with the ebb and flow
Trying to find the answers, we already know that we know
Still we ask the same old questions, work through all the same old options
To select the best one, or at least the next one
When it all comes down to it, perhaps it’s totally worth it
Compared to the alternative, life’s okay, life’s okay
Sometime we all feel pain, that we wish would just go away
But it seems to keep us up all night and day, day after day
We can feel so sad, like we might be going a little mad
And everything thing in our life that we have or had can feel so bad
When it all comes down to it, perhaps it’s totally worth it
Compared to the alternative, life’s okay,
Life’s okay hey, hey, hey, life’s okay hey, hey, hey
Might not be great today, but it’s okay hey, hey
When it all comes down to it, perhaps it’s totally worth it
Compared to the alternative, life’s okay, life’s okay
Easy come, easy go
Unusual Love Letter (read gently)
Be Hopeful
Dear Soul,
I know there’s part of you that doesn’t believe you can ever truly be loved.
Listen to that part and find out what it needs.
Be very kind and soft, and gently allow it to reveal itself to you. At first it may be a quick peep between the interlaced fingers it’s hiding behind.
Then perhaps a little longer, wild-eyed glance and maybe an awkward smile. Let it be a little unsure as it feels it’s way to trusting you and overtime let it know that it’s ok to feel sad, scared and angry.
Give it as much time and space as it needs. And always find gratitude for what it has done (and continues to do) to survive and help you survive.
Be hopeful dear soul – you’ve got this.
Love,
Yourself
